We built Girki to be a tool you can trust. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it — in plain language, not legal jargon.

Who We Are
Girki is a mobile application developed and operated by Uplicon Limited, a company registered in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We make the Nigerian meal suggestion app available on iOS and Android.
When this policy says “we”, “us”, or “Girki”, it means Uplicon Limited. When it says “you”, it means you, the person using our app.
What Information We Collect
We collect the minimum information needed to run the app properly. Here's what that includes:
Account Information
When you create an account: your email address and a password (stored securely — we never see your plain-text password). If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email from those services.
Pantry & Usage Data
The ingredients you add to your pantry, the recipes you view and cook, and your “I Cooked This” history. This is the core data that makes the app useful — without it, we can't give you personalised suggestions.
Device & App Information
Device type, operating system version, app version, and general location (country/region — not precise GPS). This helps us diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and understand how the app is used.
Subscription Information
Whether you're on a trial or paid subscription, and your subscription status. We do not store your card details — payments are handled by Apple App Store or Google Play, and RevenueCat processes subscription management.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information only for things that make the app better for you:
- To provide personalised Nigerian meal suggestions based on your pantry
- To track your cook history and prevent repetitive suggestions
- To send meal-time notifications (only if you enable them)
- To manage your subscription and billing status
- To improve the app — fix bugs, understand which features are used
- To respond to support requests
- To prevent fraud and abuse
We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share it with third parties except as described in the “Third-Party Services” section below.
Third-Party Services
We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate the app. Each of them handles your data under their own privacy policies:
Supabase
Backend database and authenticationStores your account info, pantry data, and cook history securely on servers in their cloud infrastructure.
Google Vertex AI
AI-powered meal suggestions (Surprise Me feature)Processes anonymised pantry data to generate creative meal suggestions. We do not send personally identifiable information.
RevenueCat
Subscription managementManages your in-app subscription status, free trial tracking, and billing receipts from the App Store or Google Play.
PostHog / Mixpanel
Usage analyticsHelps us understand which features are used and how to improve the app. Events are anonymised where possible.
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on secure servers provided by Supabase. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt — we never have access to your actual password.
Your pantry data and cook history are stored until you delete your account. Anonymised analytics data may be retained longer for product improvement purposes.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever experience a data breach that affects you, we will notify you by email within 72 hours of becoming aware of it.
Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your data:
You can request a copy of all data we hold about you.
You can update your account information at any time within the app.
You can delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes all your data.
You can request an export of your pantry data and cook history by emailing us.
You can disable meal-time notifications at any time in your device settings or within the app.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@girki.app. We will respond within 14 days.
Children's Privacy
Girki is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@girki.app and we will delete the information promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, notify you via email or an in-app notification.
Continuing to use Girki after a policy update means you accept the new policy. If you don't agree, you can delete your account at any time.
